The legend of the gnomes

…In order to make little Evaristo go to sleep, his mummy often told him a story about the gnomes who, on warm summer evenings, would leave the wood to play under the big beech-tree that stands at the bottom of the Valley.

Evaristo grew up, travelled the world, and forgot about the story of the gnomes. Then, one evening in July 1954, as he was walking under the large beech-tree, he happened to see some small gnomes. He remembered the story and decided to build a small hut where people could come and meet these small creatures.

So… in front of a plate of polenta and barbecued chicken, granddad Evaristo would tell thousands of children the story of the gnomes, while grandma Dirce, with a plate of roast roe deer and a braised meat with mushrooms, would entertain the gourmets with ever tastier tales…

… on summer evenings with a full moon, good children today can still see the small gnomes, sprightly spirits of the old tree, playing joyful games.
